HRD Remote Audio problem

I am running HRD (newbie) with the TinCat interface into a ft-100d. PSK digital works well with Digital Master 780.
With voice though and running hrd remote I have not been able to get the audio from Skype to pass to the radio. I set up a PC just for the radio and have another PC on my lan to test HRD remote. If I use head phones on the radio PC I can hear that skype is working fine and receiving the audio from the hrd remote pc. And as I stated PSK is working fine so I know audio is getting to the radio from the pc. I am stumped. I have hrd's sound card setup set to use the speaker audio from the pc.
I have the mic disconnected from the ft-100D but the mic gain set to 50. I am assuming audio gets into the radio for ssb voice on the same accessory pins as does the psk audio. Am I missing something? The CAT works perfect. Just no audio passing into the radio to HRD for voice.

I may be answering my own question after doing deeeeeper research. After reading the ft-100 manual through again it looks like the only time audio will get into the radio through the data port is when the radio is in digital mode. It does not say that but it does say that "the microphone is disconnected automatically so there is no need to remove it when in digital mode". Inadvertently I discovered that the microphone is active when in ssb etc and the radio is in transmit via HRD. I thought I was getting low audio passing through HRD because I could get some drive when I whistled but it was just the mic picking it up laying on the desk.
So it looks like in order to get audio into the radio for voice modes I will also need to interface the Mic jack along with the data jack. A Y cable of some sort I guess.
Someone please tell me if I am wrong.

I am able to operate PSK31, RTTY, Pactor I (with TNC) and other digital
modes using the radio in either the usb or lsb modes. I use the data port
for all.

PSK, digital all works just fine. It is voice ssb using HRD remote that is the problem.

1- The radio uses the speaker output of the pc for psk rtty audio drive into the data port. That works fine for psk rtty digital etc. I have made a few contacts with psk with the radio pc during my testing.

2- Using Skype, if I use head phones on the radio pc I can hear the mic audio from the remote hrd (ham radio deluxe) pc (Skype audio). So plugging the "speaker audio out" back into the radio's data port via the tincat does not allow audio to drive the radio in ssb voice or fm voice. But the radio's mic is active, if I have the radio keyed via HRD remote and pick up the mic I can drive the radio to full power.

Hope this is all making sense.

I am considering a second audio card but I don't think I need that as the radio PC is just for the radio and HRD.

As far as I can tell the only way to get audio into the radio for ssb or fm voice is through the mic jack and not the data port. I can find no settings with the radio that allow audio to pass via the data port for ssb or fm voice.

Hi Greg,
From memory, I think you will find that the data socket input is only active
in Digital mode, not in voice modes so, even though it works for PSK, it
won't for SSB. the idea behind that is that you can leave the microphone
connected for voice modes and it will automatically transfer inooput to the
rear socket for digital modes negating the necessity to constantly change
over plugs when changing modes.

BTW, please sign your posts so we know who we are talking to.

Thanks Eric - I think that is correct. Looks like I will be building a second leg off the input with another isolation transformer and adjustment pot to a box for input to the mic input that allows the mic to be easily removed and attached. I can envision this box with several mic connectors (hand, desk)including a BlueParrot Blue-tooth jack.
Thanks for the heads up on the signature.

you have to use the mic input jack for you to drive the radio be careful you have to use a attenuator on the mic input like the w2ihy ibox.  hope to work your station remote to remote
operation.

Hi K6GPH,

I am not sure if you are using two separate sound card interfaces (one where
you connect the headphones to and one where the TinCat interface goes to).
However, one point that you could check is whether Skype has been configured
to use the sound card that connects to the TinCat interface.

What I am doing here is that I have two interfaces - one as my normal sound
card, and one more sound card for the rig use (including PSK31, SSTV, RTTY).
MMTTY/DM780 is configured to use the radio card, and so is IP-Sound (Skype
in your case) for remote audio. All other audio (Windows Media Player,
Winamp, etc) is then configured to use the default sound card set in Windows
(which is the first card).

I hope this helps, and do feel free to let me know if I can be of further
help.

Good luck!
